Dear Mr. Secretary,
I address this correspondence to you and trust you will forward to the membership, my fellow board members, our officers and the appropriate staff. Thank you.
Over the past dozen years it has been my honor to serve the members of the National Rifle Association of America as one of their elected directors. During this time the NRA has achieved many significant milestones for our members and our country. Not the least of which was the election of the 45thPresident of the United States of America.
I find myself in continuous turmoil trying to continue the good work we have accomplished and working to convince fellow board members to stand up for our membership and exercise the principals of good governance. In June, I asked our leadership if we had been noticed by our insurer that our Directors and Officers Insurance would not be renewed, I got no answer, they all simply looked at their… shoes? Why so much trouble with candor? We had the same issue back in January with the vote to approve the “reorganization” authority.
I must resign my directorship. It is completely unrealistic to ask volunteer directors to work without the customary clear, adequate, and industry standard Directors insurance. How can you expect us, to both neglect our fiduciary duty and self-insure against doing that which you ask us to do, knowing full well it is wrong???? What?
My thanks and gratitude to those with whom I served as well as to the general membership and staff.

DEAR BOARD, SEVERAL OF YOU HAVE ASKED IF MY RESIGNATION FROM THE BOARD IS BECAUSE OF ILLNESS—THE ANSWER IS YES!! BUT, IT IS A SICKNESS OF HEART AT WHAT I HAVE DISCOVERED REGARDING THE LACK OF LEADERSHIP IN OUR LEADERS—THEY HAVE FAILED NOT ONLY THE BOARD, BUT THE ENTIRE MEMBERSHIP OF MILLIONS OF FAITHFUL CONTRIBUTORS. YOU MUST ASK YOURSELVES: IS WHAT IS HAPPENING TO THIS GREAT ORGANIZATION LIVING UP TO THE BLOOD, SWEAT AND TEARS THAT OUR FOUNDERS SACRIFICED FOR US? PLEASE SEARCH YOUR MOTIVES AND RESTORE THE NATIONAL RIFLE ASSOCIATION OF AMERICA BACK TO AMERICA.

Wow! Susan Howard really laid it on the line!

Any bets on whether there will be more resignations before the Labor Day meeting in Houston? Four more weeks. My bet would be on at least one more, perhaps two. Anyone betting more?

Yeah, that’s super-courageous and honorable of brainiac actress Susan Howard, stepping up and RUNNING AWAY after she smeared the reform camp in 1997, backed the LaPierre-Ackerman-McQueen-Mercury coup d’etat, and rubber stamped the corruption for 22 years straight. NOT.
BUT THE ALL CAPS DOES MAKE THE REASONING SUPER COMPELLING! IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH LOW-IQ OR NOT BEING ABLE TO SPELL!
These resigners seem to be more upset about not having their dereliction covered by D&O insurance than they are about the corruption and self-dealing.

Susan Howard needs to lay down enough kabuki space from the Titanic before it sucks her down. Doing the right thing after a quarter century has NOTHING to do with losing the D&O insurance and EVERYTHING to do with the blood, sweat & tears of the founders!!

As to “SEARCH FOR MOTIVES”, consider the real one:
“How do you expect us to keep rubber-stamping your corruption & self-dealing when we’re liable and no longer insured? Brewer’s keeping you out of jail. Who’s protecting your trusty accomplice-enablers on the board? Take back your rubber stamp! I can’t afford it!”
I suspect resignations will accelerate due to Prisoner’s Dilemma reasoning…NYAG gearing up for Jan 1.
