Yes, he’s reached a settlement with New York. LaPierre’s former chief of staff will pay $100,000 to NRA, be barred from holding office with any NY nonprofit, and will voluntarily testify during the trial. What is remarkable is that, of the four individual defendants, Powell’s conduct was the most defensible and least harmful. He billed some things to NRA that violated corporate policy and being new to the job, may not have known that. He wasn’t leasing corporate jets to fly his family around, being handed vacations by NRA vendors, financing a son’s wedding on NRA credit cards, or anything like that. If this is the best he could get, LaPierre, Phillips, and Frazer can forget about a last minute settlement.
Background: here is Powell’s email to the court, a few days previously. He says he is unable to afford counsel. “I am informed that the NRA does not have D&O (directors and officers liability insurance) coverage that would permit me to retain and pay counsel. I have been advised that the NRA has directed any remaining D&O coverage to cover the NRA’s own legal fees. As such, my attorneys are no longer able to continue representing me in this matter.”
In other words, the D&O policy has a limit, and NRA is holding onto that to pay for its own defense, which seems strange — if NRA has insurance coverage, why is NRA paying out millions in legal fees?

NRA in Danger 
No offense, but Josh Powel was and is as poisonous as Brewer. You can mark the beginning of the decline of NRA from the moment Powell came aboard. Sexual harassment, marching Kyle Weaver out under armed guards, utterly screwing up carry guard even worse, I could go on and on. And by the way, you should ask someone at ILA how many shotguns he acquired that he made ILA pay for, and what they are worth – paying 100K, he got off way too easy. ( and he claimed destitution, so where is the 100K coming from?) And what about the $12M verbal contract with the other grifter, McKenna? McKenna and he were a grifter pair, bilking the NRA for millions.
On top of all of that he came to the NRA with several hundred thousand dollars in default legal judgments against him – he is and was a serial loser.

Billing Shooting Sports USA $100,000 for photographs his father took at a competition is hardly defensible.
