NY Vs NRA: Four More Witnesses And The Mysterious Frenkel Report

Summary here. One of the more vital witnesses was Lisa Supernaugh, Woody Phillips’s right hand. Among other things, she testified that Millie Hallow told her that LaPierre had approved charging her son’s wedding to NRA. This illustrates how a person could get away with anything by saying “Wayne approved this,” even if he hadn’t.

NY got the Frankel Report admitted into evidence, which shows that Millie Hallow was known to be stealing from NRA 20+ years ago, and nothing much was done about it. The report itself is and was hyper-secret, and NRA’s attorneys fought like hell to keep it sealed. You can, on the other hand, read it here. (LOL!). It gets interesting after p. 16. She was putting half-a-million a year on her NRA Amex card. P. 18 notes that she reimbursed NRA with the entire of a bonus she was given. (NRA leadership gave her a bonus so she could reimburse NRA, in other words. Why would anyone give a bonus to an employee they just caught in embezzlement?)

She charged a family vacation to Puerto Rico to the NRA card (must have flown first class, each airline ticket cost over a thousand). All this was known and documented 21 years ago, not just to NRA leadership, but to the entire NRA Audit Committee, to whom the report is addressed. No wonder NRA’s attorneys wanted to keep this a secret!

  1. I’m glad the AG got the Frankel report in. It clearly documents shortcomings in management approvals and oversight that went unimproved for over 20 years. And Current 1st vice President David Coy was chair of the Audit committee then.
The sentences that stood out to me:
page 4 – “There was no override of internal controls…in large part , the non-existence of relevant adopted and enforceable governing policies and procedures.”
page 12 “Guidelines for the NRA but are not required to be followed in all circumstances.”

and from the whistleblower report that accompanied the Frankel report
“Coy, the head of the audit committee knew and did nothing.”
The Audit committee told the auditors to “stuff it” – any surprise the NRA has new auditors the following year…….

I’m interested in how the NRA will defend itself from the case the AG laid out.
